Awantipora, May 7: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organized an outreach programme titled “Digital Shield: Online Safety Awareness Program for Students” under the aegis of Community Connect (Dean Outreach).
The programme aimed to promote awareness about cyber safety, responsible digital behaviour, and career opportunities in Computer Science and Engineering. Students and faculty members participated enthusiastically in the event.
The sessions were conducted by Dr. Iraq Ahmad Reshi, Sabha Mushtaq, and Sheebah Raheem, who discussed safe online practices and highlighted common cybercrimes such as phishing, identity theft, and social media frauds.
They emphasized the importance of strong passwords, protection of personal information, ethical digital conduct, and responsible internet usage.
The speakers also introduced students to emerging career domains including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data science, and software development.
Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Asif Ali Banka, said that such outreach initiatives are vital for equipping young students with the awareness and skills needed to navigate the digital world safely.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sahil Sholla, Coordinator Outreach. The event concluded with an interactive session.
